Let Yourself Bloom

Chickadee Behavior - Holding and Eating a Nut

Close up of the Carolina Chickadee holding a nut against the tree with his feet and taking a bite.

To know how other people behave takes intelligence, but to know myself takes wisdom. To manage other people's lives takes strength, but to manage my own life takes true power. If I am content with what I have, I can live simply and enjoy both prosperity and free time. If my goals are clear, I can achieve them without fuss. If I am at peace with myself, I will not spend my life force in conflicts. If I have learned to let go, I do not need to fear dying.
John Heider

Hold On To Your Dreams

American Robin with Breakfast

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh," said Piglet at last, "what's the first thing you say to yourself?"
"What's for breakfast?" said Pooh. "What do you say, Piglet?"
"I say, I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?" said Piglet.
Pooh nodded thoughtfully. "It's the same thing," he said.”
― A.A. Milne

Wild Goose Chase

Did ye not hear it? - No; 'twas but the wind,
Or the car rattling o'er the stony street;
On with the dance! let joy be unconfined;
No sleep till morn, when Youth and Pleasure meet
To chase the glowing Hours with flying feet.

Eastern Towhee And His Song

All deep things are song. It seems somehow the very central essence of us, song; as if all the rest were but wrappages and hulls!

Nuthatch hides a Nut - Bird Behavior

Have a very good reason for everything you do.
~Laurence Olivier
I watched while the White-breasted Nuthatch took a seed/nut - hid it behind some tree bark - and back he came for more. I don't recall him ever eating these as he took them - just hiding them. I guess he was saving them for later :)
Wishing you a Wonderful Day!

Light on the Leaves

A sensitive plant in a garden grew,
And the young winds fed it with silver dew,
And it opened its fan-like leaves to the light,
and closed them beneath the kisses of night.

Walking In Wonder

I walk the world in wonder.
~Oscar Wilde
I've been asked which comes first - the quote or the image. 99% of the time the image comes first - however - today I found this quote and it seemed to sum up exactly how I feel about walking in nature - It is ALWAYS a WONDER to me. So I searched in my archives to find something that would convey that - and this is what I found :) There is so much wonder out there if we take the time to look around.
Wishing you all a Day filled with WONDER!

Wednesday

Come on - Laugh With Me!

Not the most graceful heron - but he made me smile!
This was taken back in June of 2010 during our vacation in Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina. This guy was at the North Carolina Aquarium.
Don't you find that everything seems a bit better when you smile :) It's so hard to be upset with a smile on your face or laughter in your voice.
So come on - Laugh with me - and get your smile on!

Connected

When people go within and connect with themselves, they realize they are connected to the universe and they are connected to all living things.

Hooded Merganser Couple

No road is long with good company.
~Turkish Proverb
Another walk down memory lane. I had to crop these really closely so they aren't the greatest of shots - and I guess that's why I didn't post them back in March of 2010 when I took them. My first and only sighting of Hooded Mergansers.

Saturday

A Muskrat Gathers Grass

More shots from the archives - May 2009. As I took this trip down memory lane, I recalled My First and Only (so far) Muskrat Encounter
This is the same image as the top one - just cropped a little closer so you can see the grasses in his mouth. I assume he was taking these for food for his little ones OR for building a nest.
I posted about this muskrat earlier on my blog - HERE he is coming up out of the water prior to gathering the grass - You can even see the duckweed on his face :)

Friday

Colt At Rest Among the Wildflowers

Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths.
~Etty Hillesum
About the image: One from the archives taken back in May of 2009. It won't be long before we see the baby horses again. One of the highlights of the Spring/Summer here in Blacksburg.

Skywatch Friday - A Place to Watch the Sun Set

One of the most satisfying experiences I know is fully to appreciate an individual in the same way I appreciate a sunset. When I look at a sunset...I don't find myself saying, 'Soften the orange a litle more on the right hand corner, and put a bit more purple along the base, and use a little more pink in the cloud color...' I don't try to control a sunset. I watch it with awe as it unfolds.
Carl R. Rogers
My wish for today and everyday -
Allow me to appreciate each individual for who they are - and watch with awe as they "unfold".

Waking Up to the Song of Robins

Stay, little cheerful Robin! stay,

And at my easement sing,
Though it should prove a farewell lay
And this our parting spring.

Then, little Bird, this boon confer,
Come, and my requiem sing,
Nor fail to be the harbinger
Of everlasting spring.
—William Wordsworth

Waking up to Robin's song puts me in a good mood! Have you ever heard the morning song of a Robin? Click HERE for his beautiful music.
